The Plant and Me...At Last

Any of you reading this summer know of my plant saga.

memories

After extensive research on the net and in various books here at home, I decided on a particularly brave day that this was indeed stinging nettle and I was going to use it!

I am happy to say that after drinking several cups of it I'm still here and will be inviting our volunteer to share the box with my motherwort.

The stinging nettle in this short video looks exactly like what I have:

Hooray!

Check out the video and see if you have any treasures hanging around at your house:)

  1. Hey Ma, That is sooooo cool! I have wild chives, yay! and red clover too, I'm not sure yet but I think I might have yellow duckweed too. I already know I have milk thistle, so my weed crafting is getting a great boost with this new info. It is wonderful isn't it?

I'm subbing to Susan Weed's youtube thanks to you.:)

So glad you stuck with the mysterious weed and now have welcomed it officially into the box. lol!

  2. Hi musemater:

    Wild Chives yum!

I take a stroll around the grounds in the spring and summer once in a while to see if anything exciting pops us.

I am looking for St. John's Wort now and something called pineapple weed. I think we may have some evening primrose. We have had a couple of red clovers here and there, but I would love to have more of those, too.

    Wildcrafting rocks:)

I really enjoy Susun's stuff, but as you can probably tell, she is a bit new-agey. If you can weed (ha!) that stuff out, she has a lot of plant wisdom.

  5. "...if you can weed that stuff out..."too funny :D

Have you tried handling the plant without gloves? Does it sting?

I have a couple of books on the topic, but the videos are alot better for seeing the plants. Good stuff, Ma :)

  6. Hi Joanne,

It is educational, too. I had the kids look at it with me, so maybe they picked up something from this.

Thanks for your help in this too Petra:)

    Susan,

I did wear gloves, and some of it did touch my arm and it did sting....not horribly or for a long time, but I will continue to wear gloves.

There is another video of her making nettle soup and she doesn't use gloves at all, she said she's used to it and there are supposedly ways to handle it so one doesn't get stung.

  7. Oh yeah, that's a nettle. My son had picked a lot and I made tea. If you have nettles in your garden, I think you also have plantain ( is it the right word? - in Dutch : weegbree) in your yard. That helps the itching of the nettle.
